Turning food waste into climate solutions.

Terra Maggot intercepts organic waste before it reaches landfill and puts nature to work — using the Black Soldier Fly to convert it into insect protein, oil, and organic fertilizer. Value out. Methane stopped at the source.

The Problem

Indonesia is drowning in its own leftovers.

Every year the nation throws away tens of millions of tonnes of food. Most of it is never recovered or redirected — it's buried in landfills, where it rots and releases methane, one of the most aggressive drivers of climate change.

Roughly 70% of the waste entering Indonesian landfills is organic, mostly food, and the methane it produces traps heat far more powerfully than carbon dioxide.

It's a double failure. The same food that could have nourished people or generated economic value instead becomes an environmental liability — poisoning the air while millions go hungry.

Food waste in Indonesia sits at the intersection of two crises at once: persistent food insecurity and a growing share of national greenhouse-gas emissions.

Indonesia had no system, at scale, to intercept organic waste before it reaches the landfill and convert it into something valuable.

We built that system.

The Terra Maggot Estate is a standardized, modular biological facility that intercepts organic waste at the source and puts nature to work — using the Black Soldier Fly, one of Earth's most efficient organic-waste converters.

Because every Estate is built to the same specification, capacity is added by replication rather than reinvention — the model scales as fast as the waste stream demands.

per day
Capacity per Estate

Every Estate converts up to 10 tonnes of food waste a day into high-value insect protein and oil — instead of methane.

STEP 01

Food Waste Processing

Collected waste is inspected, decontaminated, and formulated into standardized feedstock.

STEP 02

BSF Breeding

A managed colony produces eggs and larvae on a continuous, in-house cycle.

STEP 03

Larvae Feeding

Feedstock and larvae are distributed to the Blocks for the grow-out phase.

STEP 04

Harvest & Frass

Mature maggots and nutrient-rich frass are collected and processed into products.

Our Services

We collect your food waste — and turn it into climate value.

Terra Maggot operates a dedicated food-waste management and collection service. We pick up organic waste directly from your premises on a scheduled route, take it off your hands as a compliance and disposal burden, and convert it into protein, oil, and fertilizer — with the diversion measured and reported back to you.

Scheduled Collection

Regular, route-based pickup of segregated food waste from your site — daily or on a frequency matched to your volume, with bins and handling provided.

Weighed & Documented

Every load is weighed and logged at intake, giving you ground-truth records of exactly how much waste you diverted — measured, not estimated.

Diversion & ESG Reporting

Receive auditable reporting on waste diverted from landfill and the emissions avoided — evidence you can put straight into your sustainability and ESG disclosures.

How It Works

Waste in. Value out. Repeat.

A closed loop, engineered for consistency across every Estate — turning an inconsistent waste stream into a precise, reliable input, then into products the market wants.

01WE COLLECT

Waste in

Organic waste is sourced from food suppliers, markets, and industry. At the Central Hub every load is inspected, cleaned of contamination, and formulated into standardized feedstock.

02WE BREED

Nature, engineered

Inside the Central Hub, our Black Soldier Fly colony produces eggs and larvae on a continuous cycle — the biological engine that powers everything downstream.

03WE GROW

50 blocks, one standard

Across five hubs, 50 Production Blocks raise larvae to maturity — each processing ~200 kg of feedstock a day, kept uniform by digital monitoring.

04WE HARVEST & TRADE

Value out

Mature maggots are processed into insect protein and oil; frass into organic fertilizer — packaged and sold to domestic and export markets. The loop closes and begins again.

The Solution Architecture

Inside a Terra Maggot Estate

A four-layer system built to run the same way, everywhere — from a single Central Hub to fifty distributed Maggot Blocks, all feeding one intelligence layer.

01
Receiving & Pre-Processing

Waste Processing → Feedstock

Incoming food waste is received at the Central Hub, then inspected, decontaminated, and screened. Clean material becomes a standardized, nutrient-consistent feedstock — an unpredictable waste stream turned into a precise, reliable input.

02
Breeding Room

BSF Breeding (Fly → Egg → Larvae)

The biological engine. A managed Black Soldier Fly colony is bred in controlled conditions to ensure consistent quality and volume — guaranteeing a steady in-house supply of larvae, so the Estate never depends on external sources.

03
Larvae Raising

Grow-Out in the Maggot Blocks

The production floor. Larvae are fed the pre-processed feedstock across 50 Maggot Blocks in five hubs, growing through the grow-out phase to maturity — with digital monitoring keeping quality uniform Estate-wide.

04
Harvesting & Output

Harvest: Maggots + Frass

The output. Mature larvae are harvested and processed into insect protein, insect oil, and organic fertilizer from the nutrient-rich frass — packaged for domestic and export markets, closing the loop.

The Impact

What 10 tonnes of waste a day really means.

Waste doesn't have to be a liability. Every Terra Maggot Estate proves it — recovering thousands of tonnes of organic waste a year, preventing the emissions it would have caused, and creating sustainable protein in its place.

Figures per Terra Maggot Estate · methane stopped at the source

We shrink the waste stream

Every Estate diverts thousands of tonnes of organic waste a year away from landfills — and because the model is modular and replicable, a network of Estates can scale across Indonesia as fast as the problem demands.

We cut climate risk at the source

Waste intercepted is methane prevented. Converting organic waste biologically, instead of letting it rot in a landfill, removes a direct source of the emissions that make food waste nearly a tenth of the national footprint.

We turn loss into value

The billions lost to waste each year become recoverable output: sustainable protein, insect oil, and a circular resource stream feeding domestic and export markets. Value that was buried is now harvested.

The Opportunity

Two markets. Both growing. Both under-supplied.

Terra Maggot sits at the intersection of sustainable animal-feed protein and organic waste management — a position where every tonne collected serves demand on both sides of the business.
